KMFA Program Producer Wins Gracie Award®

Gracie Award

February 27, 2007 (Austin, TX) – American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) has announced the 2007 winners of the annual Gracie Awards® - and Classical 89.5, KMFA’s own Kathryn Mishell is among them!  Ms. Mishell is a 2007 Gracie Award winner for her Into the Light program, produced from the studios of KMFA and broadcast every Sunday evening at 9pm.  Into the Light recognizes the treasure trove of great works by women composers.

The Gracie Award recognizes exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women in all facets of electronic media, as well as individuals who have made contributions to the industry.

“Women from Fanny Mendelssohn to Joan Tower, and many who are virtually unknown have written significant music,” says Mishell.  “The purpose of Into the Light is to let people know that this music exists and is worthy of their attention.  I am immensely proud that this program has been recognized nationally by the American Women in Radio and Television with a Gracie Award!”

Ms. Mishell, a composer herself, began conceptualizing Into the Light in 1999.  It was first broadcast on KMFA 89.5 in January of 2000.

KMFA’s General Manager, Jack Allen says, “This is wonderful recognition for a producer whose personal commitment and zeal for this subject is unparalleled. And as a composer, Kathryn Mishell knows as well as anyone what it takes to succeed in a very intense and competitive music environment. Her historical perspective is perhaps the most significant in the U.S.  This is a well-deserved award.”
