About Chris Johnson
Music Director and afternoon host Chris Johnson came to KMFA after over a decade of work in Houston as classical music host, programmer, journalist and arts advocate. Known in Houston for his daily music shows on the city’s NPR affiliate, KUHF-88.7 and its newer sister-station, Classical 91.7, Chris was also a founding producer and contributor for the daily arts magazine, The Front Row, which ended after an enormously successful ten-year run. His writing has been published in Arts + Culture Houston, Arts + Culture Texas, The Journal of the Society for American Music and The Indianapolis Star. Once an active professional violinist, he made multiple recordings with the KUHF Chamber Ensemble and performed regularly in some of Houston’s most distinguished venues.
Chris has served on artistic advisory committees for Houston Grand Opera, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra and Opera Vista. He can be heard on Rideshare, weekday afternoons from 2 to 6.
