Origami by Joan Son
The Origami Diva at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center
The art of Origami expresses the mystical in the simple form, from a single fold to 1,000 folded butterflies. Enjoy pieces of Joan Son's exhibit of meditations on nature through paper, as she explores the vastness of nature with many pieces relating specifically to plants and stonework at the center. Also on view will be Earth Robe, an 8-foot-tall paper art construction resembling a Japanese kimono. Read more about this exhibit on our Events Calendar.

Austin Summer Pops presents: Viva Espana! Guitar
On August 2nd, the Austin Summer Pops Orchestra, directed by Annette Jurcevic, presents “¡Viva España!”, a concert celebrating Spanish music. The orchestra will play works by de Falla, Bizet, and Rimsky-Korsakov, and Darin Layne will play Spanish-inspired pieces on guitar. For more information on this and other events, visit our Events Calendar.

RubaiyatThe Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam in the West This year marks the 150th anniversary of Edward FitzGerald’s translation of the poetry of the medieval Persian astronomer, Omar Khayyám. These gemlike verses about mortality, fate, and doubt became an unprecedented popular phenomenon in England and America. Featuring 200 items from the Ransom Center’s extensive collections, the exhibition narrates The Rubáiyát’s history through such items as Persian manuscripts, miniature editions, and illustrated parodies. This exhibit runs through August 2nd. For more information, visit our Events Calendar.
