Life as a KMFA Intern

Kelsey Padgett
by Kelsey Padgett

My internship at KMFA has been a huge highlight of my college experience. Every time I come in I am greeted by the small staff that has let me become part of their community. The people at KMFA are easy going and very welcoming to every station member, coworker, and intern. As a development intern, my days are full of eclectic tasks that help the member services team. Each day is different: one day I might be packaging premium gifts to send to our members, another I might be calling restaurants to see if they will donate food for our membership drive, and yet another day I might be the Pledge Captain taking care of our volunteers during a shift of the drive. Although I am the "development" intern, I am also given interesting tasks in other exciting areas of the station. I get to edit promotional spots to be aired, and document shows by creating cue sheets. An important responsibility of an intern at KMFA is pulling CDs. This internship is a great opportunity for anyone wishing to get a taste of non-profit development, or the daily operations of a radio station.

Kelsey is currently in her second year studying Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Texas at Austin. After her time at KMFA she hopes to work at another radio station to gain more experience in the field.
