The Georgetown Festival of the Arts presents its Twelfth Annual Festival: "Fire and Ice," featuring the music of Edvard Grieg, Carl Nielson, Jan Sibelius and other Nordic Masters. Performers include Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Gregory Allen, Kiyoshi Tamagawa, Hai Zheng, Virginia Dupuy, Lynn Parr Mock, Dale Dietert, Jessica Mathaes, Toby Blumenthal, and Bruce Cain. Ensembles include the Round Rock Symphony, conducted by Stefan Sanders, with Jason Kwak, piano, and the San Gabriel Chorale, conducted by Kenny Sheppard, with Bruce Cain, baritone, and David Polley, solo organist, and the musical ensembles from Georgetown High School band, orchestra and choir, led by Mary Powers, Justin Smith and Joey Lowrance. Seminar speakers include Paul Gaffney and Ryan Ross. A 1941 film of Ibsen's "Peer Gynt," with Charlton Heston at City Lights Theatre, and Saturday night fireworks display by Gary Kovar.

Opening Concert is at Wednesday, June 1, at 8pm.

On Thursday, June 2, Symposium I is at 2 PM at the Palace Theatre in Georgetown downtown. Antonio Pompa-Baldi will appear in recital on Thursday, June 2 at 8 pm at Southwestern University's Alma Thomas Theatre.

On Friday June 3, Symposium II begins at 10 am in the Jones Theatre at Southwestern University. Also on Friday at 2 pm is the showing of "Peer Gynt" at City Lights Theatre in Georgetown. On Friday at 8PM The Round Rock Symphony, with Jason Kwak, soloist, will perform in the Alma Thomas Theatre at Southwestern University.

On Saturday June 4, at 10 AM in the Jones Theatre of Southwestern University five soloists will appear in the Salon Concert. Saturday evening in San Gabriel Park in Georgetown at 8pm ensembles from Georgetown High School will perform, followed by a fireworks display.

On Sunday at 4PM, in the Lois Perkins Chapel at Southwestern University the San Gabriel Chorale, conducted by Kenny Sheppard, with David Polley, organist and Bruce Cain, baritone, will perform choral and organ music by Grieg and Lars-Erik Larsson.

Season tickets are $110. Individual adult concert tickets at $25, and Symposium Tickets at $5.  All student single tickets are $5, while a student series ticket is $30.

  • The Festival's Artistic Director is Ellsworth Peterson, professor emeritus of music at Southwestern University. He holds an undergraduate degree from Southwestern University, a Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary and a PhD from Harvard. He has been Artistic Director for all of the previous eleven Festivals of the Arts. Festival composers have been Handel (2005), Haydn (2006), Schubert (2007), Mendelssohn (2008), Dvoƙák (2009), Copland (2010), Brahms (2011), Debussy, Ravel and Poulenc (2012), Tchaikovsky, Arensky and Rachmaninov (2013), Albéniz, Granados and Falla (2014), and Robert and Clara Schumann (2015).
