Looking for a musical way to greet the New Year? Why not join the Wednesday Morning Music Club (“WMMC”) on January 17th, as they celebrate the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Founders Day and present a program dedicated to American Women Composers?

Highlights include:

Clips from Chicks with Sticks: Documentary based on Women Drummers by author and WMMC member
Angela Smith.

Composer, pianist, and WMMC member, Carlie Burdett, presents Three Short Songs: The Dream Bird (Burdett/words and music); Hope is the Thing With Feathers (Emily Dickinson/words); and Let Me Grow Lovely Growing Old (words Karle Wilson Baker). WMMC member and soprano Carla Johnson accompanies Ms. Burdett.

WMMC member and pianist Nan Hampton presents Five Preludes by composer Kathryn Mishell. Ms. Hampton plays Homage to Prokofieff: Andante as well as Andante rubato.

With the help of bass-baritone, Russell Gregory, and fellow WMMC member and pianist, Carolyn McColloch WMMC present three of Ms. Burdett’s original compositions highlighting the poetry of Robert Frost: To the Thawing Wind; Birches; and The Last Word of a Bluebird.

WMMC members Elise Ragland, soprano, and Brian Grothues perform Marta Keen’s Homeward Bound.

Another highlight of the program is Song Cycle: Three Songs of Spirit on Poems of Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Ms. Lindberg’s work is presented by WMMC member and composer, Melanie Richards: Interior Tree; Presentiment; and Presence. Ms. Richards is at the piano while Guest Performer, Kellie Bledsoe, sings soprano.

Finally WMMC members Martha MacDonald, clarinet, Terri Freeland, cello, Felicity Coltman, piano close the program with Gwyneth Walker’s Salem Reel.
