Focus on Women

In Honor of Women's History Month

Throughout the month of March, KMFA puts the focus on the women of classical music. We’ll feature women performers, conductors, and composers to highlight their accomplishments and contributions to classical music.

On Sunday, March 1, spend the afternoon with Carmel O'Donovan as she features a program of music featuring a cast of noted composers, conductors, and performers. We’ll highlight music by Clara Schumann, Rebecca Clarke, Amy Beach, Joan Tower, and Margaret Buechner among others. We’ll also survey some of the great female conductors of our time.

Starting March 2, we offer some more in-depth listening opportunities each Monday throughout the day. Reneé Beale will bring you a series of programs featuring some of the most highly regarded and groundbreaking female conductors. Dianne Donovan will take you on a survey of women composers throughout history, and music director Chris Johnson will explore influential teachers and patrons without whom the world of classical music, particularly in America, would not be the same.

On March 29, hear an encore broadcast of Classical Austin's A Celebration of Women's History Month. Dianne Donovan interviews some of the leading women on the classical music scene in Central Texas, like Anne Akiko Meyers, Jessica Mathaes, and more.

Check back throughout March for more updates.
