As a part of Women's History Month, KMFA highlights the contributions of women performers, conductors, and composers to the world classical music. On Monday, March 22nd  in the 9 a.m. hour, we will recognize the work of Marin Alsop. You'll hear pieces from Brahms, Prokofiev, and Kevin Puts, as conducted by Alsop.

Currently music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Marin Alsop holds the distinction of being the first American women to lead one of the country’s major orchestras. She is an internationally known figure, and performs around the world.

John Clare caught up with Marin Alsop on the phone in Brazil, while working with the São Paulo Orchestra to open their 2015 season, which began this month. In this interview, she speaks about her passion for conducting at a young age, the hunger for great music in South America, and Brazil, in particular, and her upcoming projects.
