About

Hermione Lee, biographer of Virginia Woolf, Willa Cather, Edith Wharton, Penelope Fitzgerald, and Tom Stoppard (currently underway), talks about her experiences pursuing her subjects through their archives on Wednesday, April 8, at 4 p.m.

Lee describes the accidents and surprises of a biographer’s quest, from embargoed letters in a Nebraskan bank to water-stained books rescued from a sunken barge in the Thames, from the spell cast by Woolf’s diaries to a Wharton deathbed discovery in an Italian villa.

The program is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome. Seating is first-come, first-served, and doors open at 3:30 p.m.

Attendees may enter to win a copy of Hermione Lee’s Biography: A Very Short Introduction as well as a signed copy of Tom Stoppard’s Hapgood: A Play.
