Tomorrow night (March 21st) the ATX Composers Showcase @ SXSW takes place at the Hideout Theater, curated by Graham Reynolds & David Lobel. The Showcase will consist of six performances beginning at 8 p.m., featuring contemporary pieces from Austin composers and musicians.

KMFA Content Director John Clare spoke with several of the performers who are on the program, beginning with ring leader Graham Reynolds.

Graham Reynolds at KMFA"It is my 'cowboy band' portion of the work," says Reynolds (pictured left) of his original work Marfa Tryptich. "The first part of Marfa Tryptich has fourteen players." This genre-crossing instrumental suite will be on the program Saturday night at the Hideout Theater.

Steve Parker, is a trombone player and composer (pictured at the top of this page). Steve Parker and friends kick off tomorrow night’s performance. Parker says, "We'll be mixing trombone, violin and electronics in a set featuring overtones." Their music will also be part of the Fusebox Festival next month.

Steven SnowdenFast Forward Austin takes the stage at 9 p.m. on Saturday, with several musicians. Co-founder and director of Fast Forward Austin, Steven Snowden (pictured at right) says, "It's a real treat to present the Cordova Quartet, in residence at UT studying with the Miros, to an alternative space. They'll play Dan Welcher and Karim Al-Zand!"
