About

In a rally cry for women’s equality, connecting their stories to those of millions of women around the globe, renowned world music performers and band leaders Julie Slim, Leti Garza, Paula Maya, and Rakefet Laviolette (Mafaro Marimba) have teamed up to offer an eclectic mix of original works and covers reflecting the music of Brazil, Africa, France, the Middle East and several Pan American countries.

In alignment with this year’s global International Women’s Day theme #PressforProgress, the evening unofficially kicks-off SXSW season in town with a courageous conversation about the limited economic opportunities, professional erasure, and threats of violence that women may face in the Austin music scene and in their daily lives. The artists will perform a musical showcase meant to heal, inspire, and provoke joy as a means of resistance.

All genders are encouraged to attend and everyone is welcome. Local women’s wellness expert Dr. Deb Kern will emcee. A portion of proceeds from the evening will benefit local women’s rights organizations, to be announced.

Admission is $10 ($5 for children ages 10 and under).
