Join KMFA as we go behind-the-scenes with up-and-coming Austin new music ensembles at intimate rehearsals in studios, casitas, and other spaces across the city. Take a beat with these talented musicians to find out about the work they're playing, what inspires them, and what you really need to know about classical music. 

Episode 1 features the Kraken Quartet, an Austin-based percussion ensemble who recently performed in the "Viewfinder Series" at the Long Center for the Performing Arts.

About Antonette Masando

Antonette Masando is a music journalist, producer, and host. Originally from Dallas / Ft Worth, she has lived in Austin, TX for five years. While attending the University of Texas at Austin, Antonette began her work in media as a music intern at radio stations KUTX 98.9 and KMFA 89.5, and later, as a promotions assistant at iHeart Media, Inc. She then went on to host and executive produce the entertainment news show Austin Underground, honored as the “Show of the Year” and “Best Social Media” by Texas Student Television in May 2018. She recently served as the moderator of #ATXMusicTalks “The Future of the Live Music Capital of the World” for the City of Austin. Today, Antonette continues amplifying Austin music culture through video production and podcasting.

About Matt Kufchak

In addition to being the marketing & engagement assistant at KMFA Classical 89.5 and a contributor at Sightlines magazine, Matt Kufchak is a classically-trained cellist who has performed for audiences all across the world, from Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral to Carnegie Hall.  He was a silver medalist in the Junior Division of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and has studied under many of the great quartet musicians of the 20th century, including members of the Guarneri, Emerson, Juilliard, Cleveland, and Miró Quartets. He was featured on NPR’s “From the Top” radio and television programs, and received the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award in 2007. His goal in all his work is to share the emotion and beauty of music with new people!
