About

Organist Eric Mellenbruch and the choir of St David’s Episcopal Church, directed by David Stevens, present early music based on hymns from the first English-language hymnal, largely translated from early Lutheran chorales. Rich Renaissance motets and colorful early Baroque organ verses are interspersed with the hymns themselves, as they would have been in that period. The series of three concerts (November, February, and June) marks the first new, corrected and annotated, edition of that hymnal, ‘Goostly psalmes and spirituall songes’, which Mellenbruch is preparing. A pre-concert lecture begins at 7:00 pm.

The series continues February 20 and June 25, 2020.
