Austin Symphony Orchestra

KMFA Classical 89.5 FM, one of Texas' longest broadcasting classical radio stations, introduces a lineup of broadcasts featuring archived Austin Symphony Orchestra (ASO) performances as part of the station's in-house produced Listen Local series. The announcement of the partnership comes amid continued uncertainty about when the orchestra can once again perform in concert halls for live audiences.

The Austin Symphony had to suspend the remaining concerts for their 2019-2020 season due to the coronavirus outbreak. KMFA has been working diligently with the ASO over the past few weeks to put together a weekly series of broadcasts of the symphony, using perofrmances from their archives going back several years.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be able to present listeners with a weekly Austin Symphony broadcast each Sunday," said Anthony McSpadden, Director of Broadcast and Content at KMFA. "We hope that being able to hear these broadcast performances will become a highlight of the week while they are on, and that this series will serve to remind us all that we still need the arts, now more than ever. Even more importantly, that until we do reach the time when we can all be back in the concert hall together, our support of cultural institutions like the Austin Symphony is needed -- now, and in the future."

The broadcasts of repertoire from past seasons will take place on eight consecutive Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Maestro Peter Bay worked with McSpadden and KMFA host Jeffrey Blair to put exciting programs together for listeners. These programs begin Sunday, May 17 and run through Sunday, July 5, on KMFA FM 89.5. The ASO continues to find ways to connect with the Austin community through this difficult time, and appreciates local partners, like KMFA, that help make that possible.
