LA FOLLIA PRESENTS

CHAMBER MUSIC FROM THE BAROQUE & CLASSICAL ERAS WITH SPECIAL GUEST ANTON NEL

Premieres October 18 | Virtual Concert

This is La Follia's 40th anniversary season. They are responding to the current challenges presented by the pandemic with an imaginative season which combines online concerts with the commitment to return to live performance as soon as safely possible.

In their first concert, La Follia will contrast how the Baroque Era and Classical Era approached music for 2-3 players. It is a mistake to think of it as some kind of ascendant evolution culminating in Beethoven, any more than it is to think of a Picasso as "better" than a Boticelli. Rather, think of it as a music composed based on the norms of the time, but seeking new ways to excite the passions of contemporary listeners.

The program will feature music by Marais, Telemann, Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven.

Performers:

  • Stephen Redfield, violin
  • Eric Smith, gamba and cello
  • Keith Womer, harpsichord
  • Anton Nel, fortepiano
