About

Alamo Drafthouse Austin and the Wildflower Center are coming together to transform our Family Garden into a theater for one night only; bring on the wings! Spread your blanket on the Play Lawn and enjoy “Flight of the Butterflies” (in 2D), a film about the great journey of migrating monarchs.

The monarch butterfly is a true marvel of nature. Weighing less than a penny, it makes one of the longest migrations on Earth across a continent to a place it has never known. Follow the monarchs' perilous journey and join hundreds of millions of real butterflies in the remote mountain peaks of Mexico, with breathtaking cinematography from an award winning team including Oscar® winner Peter Parks. Be captivated by the true and compelling story of an intrepid scientist's 40-year search to find the monarchs’ secret hideaway. Unravel the mysteries and experience the Flight of the Butterflies.

Join us before the film for fun events and educational activities!
Gates open at 6 p.m., movie at dusk.

  • Name: Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
  • I would like a description that we could have paired with event listings (some calendars/sites ask for it) that speaks to both our mission and nods at the aspects that build revenue. Here is what I came up with, based on our awesome About Us on the new site:

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of native plants. Located just ten miles from downtown, we are a botanical garden open to the public year-round and have become a favored venue for everything from conservation-focused conventions to beautiful weddings.

We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation and application of native plants through our gardens, campus, research, education and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and enhance human health and happiness. Visit, learn and make a better world with us.

The Wildflower Center was founded by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes in 1982 and became a part of The University of Texas at Austin in 2006.
