Development Intern

The most critical traits for the KMFA intern are reliability, integrity, ability to take initiative and attention to detail. Computer literacy, excellent communication and writing skills, interest in non-profit management and the medium of radio, involvement and interest in serving the KMFA membership community, demonstrated ability to work well with others, are all strong advantages. Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with an accredited college or university looking to supplement current course study in the Colleges of Business, Communication, Liberal Arts, or Fine Arts. Reports to Associate Development Director for Membership.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with activities of non-profit development department
  • Assist with membership service duties
  • Assist in the planning, organization and development of corporate outreach
  • Develop member service website and other communication initiatives
  • Collect donor research
  • Assist with the development and acquisition of member benefit promotional materials
  • Learn to work effectively with staff, as well as donors, to achieve financial and customer service   
  • Support the objectives of non-profit, listener-supported station
  • Other tasks as special skills and talents may allow

Requirements

  • Experience in a non-profit preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Confident self-starter; ability to prioritize and juggle multiple assignments
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
  • Ability to attend occasional late afternoon/early evening Board meetings
  • Ability to anticipate, troubleshoot, problem solve and create/implement systems that contribute to a smooth efficient and smart working environment
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for KMFA’s mission to provide an all-classical public radio service to Austin, high energy, sense of humor, “can-do” attitude, outgoing and friendly personality

Marketing & Public Relations Intern

Computer literacy, excellent communication and writing skills, interest in non-profit management and the medium of radio, involvement and interest in serving the KMFA membership community, demonstrated ability to work well with others, are all strong advantages. Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with an accredited college or university looking to supplement current course study in the Colleges of Business, Communication, Liberal Arts, or Fine Arts. Reports to Manager of Public Relations. 10-20 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions May Include the Following:

  • Social Media:  Will have the opportunity to help shape KMFA’s use of social media. Intern will get the opportunity to recommend strategies and ideas for expansion of brand on social media.
  • Web site and newsletter:  The intern will generate or coordinate compilation of material for the KMFA website, monthly e-newsletter and periodic e-blasts, including classical music news, station news and events, blog entries, and programming features.
  • Target audience research and media strategy recommendations: Based on examination of listener data and possible listener surveys, the intern will research and recommend advertising and promotional vehicles for increasing the awareness and listenership of KMFA. 
  • Promotions:  The intern will coordinate on-air ticket giveaways from local arts organizations. Intern will also represent KMFA at strategic community events with table displays and/or social media presence.
  • Community Advisory Board:  Intern assists with presentations at meetings of KMFA’s Community Advisory Board, takes notes and writes minutes of the meetings, and participates in meeting discussions as a representative of the undergraduate community.  
  • Other tasks as special skills and talents may allow

Operations & Programming Intern

Computer literacy, excellent communication and writing skills, interest in non-profit management and the medium of radio, involvement and interest in serving the KMFA membership community, demonstrated ability to work well with others, are all strong advantages.  Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with an accredited college or university looking to supplement current course study in the Colleges of Business, Communication, Liberal Arts, or Fine Arts.  Reports to Content Director/Technical Director. 10-20 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions May Include the Following:

  • Music Library:  The intern will have the opportunity to help manage KMFA’s music library including database software.
  • Web site and newsletter:  The intern will generate material for the KMFA website including classical music news, events, blog entries, and programming features.
  • Technical Operations:  The intern will assist in technical operations including asset management, documentation of airchain/studio systems, and metadata creation and upkeep.
  • On-air Content:  The intern will assist the production staff in the creation and ingestion of on-air material from promos to produced programs.
  • Other tasks as special skills and talents may allow
