Awards include the audience award at 2014 SXSW Film Festival for “Yakona,” "Best Music" at the 2014 Ocean Blue Film Festival for “Yakona,” and the 2008 B Iden Payne award for best musical director and best original score for "The Red Balloon". He received a BA in English from the University of Texas in 2003.
As a musician, Justin Sherburn has had a decades long career as a pianist and guitarist performing jazz, rock, folk and tango and embracing the traditional role that each of these genres demand. As a composer, he draws on these traditions within a modern classical framework. His original compositions combine traditional orchestral instrumentation with analog synthesis, digital programming, and field recordings to create new forms and new genres.
