His music can be heard on PBS programming and appears regularly on Austin radio station KUT. Justin has composed for television, theater, and dance performances and is the resident composer for Austin's Troublepuppet Theater Company. His sextet "Montopolis" performs original modern classical works in multi-media settings.

Justin arranged the "Sanctus" Movement of Mozart's Requiem for Golden Hornet Project's presentation "Mozart Requiem Undead" in Spring 2014. He has had a long and varied career as a touring musician, working with Austin bands Okkervil River and the 81/2 Souvenirs, sharing the stage with legends such as Willie Nelson, Roky Erickson, Brian Setzer and Wilco, appearing on the David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Fallon television shows, and performing at festivals around the globe from Coachella in California to Primavera Sound in Barcelona to the Laneway Festival in Australia. He currently records and performs regularly with Montopolis, the Ascots, Daylo Arba, the Motts, Stone Wheels and Glovertango, a traditional Argentine tango ensemble. Awards include the audience award at 2014 SXSW Film Festival for “Yakona,” "Best Music" at the 2014 Ocean Blue Film Festival for “Yakona,” and the 2008 B Iden Payne award for best musical director and best original score for "The Red Balloon". In 2010, Okkervil River was inducted into the Austin Chronicle’s “Austin Music Hall of Fame.” Justin writes, arranges, and records at his home studio in Montopolis, Texas. He received a BA in English from the University of Texas in 2003.

As a musician, Justin Sherburn has had a decades long career as a pianist and guitarist performing jazz, rock, folk and tango and embracing the traditional role that each of these genres demand. As a composer, he draws on these traditions within a modern classical framework. His original compositions combine traditional orchestral instrumentation with analog synthesis, digital programming, and field recordings to create new forms and new genres.
