Swing on the Square takes place on the third weekend of May. This event honors Texas Western Swing Music and the pioneers who started this great sound and helped it develop over the years. Our goal is to bring in business to the City of San Marcos and to show folks from out of town what a great city this is to visit and spend some time in. We also hope to bring a family event to the folks from San Marcos, Hays County and the surrounding area. It started back in 1993 in San Marcos, and this will be the 23rd year of a partnership between the City of San Marcos and the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame. Western Swing is the Official Music of Texas, and the only music style that was born right here in Texas.

The event takes place on a stage on the Courthouse Square and several clubs and restaurants around the square. There is music all day long on Saturday from 11:00 am until 11:30 that evening. Bands like the Jason Roberts Band, Carolyn Martin’s Swing Band, Tony Harrison , the Hot Texas Swing Band, Al Dressen’s Super Swing Revue, the Texan Playboys, and Mikki Daniel and Hailey Sandoz and Texas Wildfire will be appearing. There is a dance contest that evening and a street dance as well as the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame Show.

On Sunday the event moves to Black’s BBQ located at 510 Hull Street and starts with the 2nd Annual Cowboy Gospel Brunch from 11 am to 12:45 pm with coffee biscuits and gravy, and then continues with the 28th Annual Gathering with Western Swing music from 1 pm til 7:30 pm featuring Carolyn Martin’s Swing Band, Mikki Daniel and and Texas Wildfire with Hailey Sandoz, the Texan Playboys, and plenty of the great Texas style BBQ that Black’s is known for. The Texan Playboys do a special show from 5 til 7:30 pm featuring Louise Rowe, Johnny Case, and Casey Dickens from Bob Wills Texas Playboys band. Come and be one of the thousands that come to San Marcos this weekend for great music, food and real Texas good time atmosphere!!
