Anton Nel, internationally renowned classical pianist and professor of Piano and Chamber music at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, will join KMFA 89.5 show Pianoforte as a guest host each month. Nel’s first show will air on Saturday, March 14, and will include recordings taken from his performance with La Follia Austin Baroque last year, performing Haydn and Mozart Piano Concertos on a period fortepiano.

Nel stated, “I’ve always had an outstanding relationship with KMFA. In addition to being a first-rate radio station, I greatly admire what they do for the Austin arts community. I’m so happy to join the hosting team for Pianoforte. The piano is a large part of my life, obviously, and this is yet another great way to share the wonderful body of literature up close and personal with the listeners.”

Nel will cover a wide range of topics, from composer and performer tributes, to piano music of other cultures. Shows will include a mix of live and pre-recorded performances. Pianoforte is a locally produced offering of KMFA 89.5; it celebrates the art of the piano and explores the evolution of music written for keyboard. It is hosted by Carmel O’Donovan and produced by Sarah Addison.
