Downsizing?  Fall cleaning underway? I have a great suggestion for you. Bring your much-loved but no-longer-played musical instrument to KMFA this month and donate it to the Fall Into Music Instrument Drive.

That lonely flute (or violin or guitar or horn) tucked away in a closet will soon receive new life in the hands of a young student eager to tackle the challenge and discover the joy of learning to play an instrument.

KMFA has sponsored the three-year-old, city-wide Fall Into Music since its inception, working with the Hispanic Alliance for the Performing Arts. The event has become one of the biggest cultural collaborations in Austin, with nearly a dozen nonprofits and school systems working together to coordinate instrument placement, and a growing network of schools, churches and other businesses serving as drop-off locations and helping to spread the word.  In the past two years, over 600 instruments of all kinds, music books and accessories (drumsticks, strings, etc.) have been collected and passed along to aspiring young musicians who cannot afford to purchase them.  This year we are hoping to receive 1,000 instruments or more!

Join us for a festive kick-off event at the Mexican American Cultural Center on Saturday, November 14, or bring your instrumental gift to KMFA November 15 – 18.  More details are available at fallintomusic.org
