City of Austin seeking request for qualifications for the Govalle Neighborhood Park Pool Improvements Art in Public Places Project

Artists from Austin and surrounding counties are eligible to apply; Deadline, October 27

Art in Public Places (AIPP), a program of the City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division of the Economic Development Department, seeks to commission a permanent exterior public artwork that reflects the history of the Govalle neighborhood and creates an iconic location marker to the entrance of the community pool. Professional artists who live and work in the Austin metropolitan area, including Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet, and Blanco counties are eligible to apply. The application deadline is October 27, 2016.

The goal of the Govalle Neighborhood Park Pool Improvement AIPP Project is to select an artist/artist team who will design artwork that: establishes a visible pool entrance that could include a waiting or seating area; extends the lineage of the site as a neighborhood and family gathering area; is easily maintained and vandal resistant in an exterior environment; and contributes to the depth/breadth of the City of Austin’s public art collection. The budget for this project is $45,800.

Artists who are new to public art or work primarily in 2-dimensions are particularly encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

An Artist Information Meeting will take place at 5:30 pm on September 27, at the Cultural Arts Division offices at 201 E. 2nd Street. AIPP staff are also available to assist applicants during AIPP Open Office Hours from 2-4 pm on Friday, September 9 and October 14 at the Cultural Arts Division offices. Validated parking is available in the Convention Center garage located on Brazos Street.
