KMFA’s free Midday Music Concert Series welcomes Austin-based jazz ensemble The Fellowship for SON SHIP: A Century of John Coltrane, a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of jazz icon John Coltrane.
Led by drummer and bandleader Joshua Alderete, The Fellowship will explore Coltrane’s extraordinary musical legacy through selections from A Love Supreme and other works from across his career.
More than a birthday celebration, SON SHIP reflects on the enduring message within Coltrane’s music. In a time marked by chaos and restlessness, The Fellowship looks to Coltrane’s music and its capacity to create peace, reflection, and serenity.

Established around 2018, The Fellowship is a community of jazz musicians from a variety of backgrounds united through a shared belief in the power of music. Led by Joshua Alderete, the Austin-based ensemble brings musicians together around a simple mission: to unite our world through the gift of music.
