HALLOWEEN CHILDREN'S CONCERT

Sunday, October 24 at 3:00 p.m. | Long Center

CHILLS & THRILLS!
Carolyn Watson, guest conductor
Bernedette Nason, narrator
Long Center's Dell Hall

It’s creepy, crawly and so much fun it’s spooky! Your little ghost or goblin will help haunt the Long Center for the Performing Arts for the Austin Symphony Orchestra’s annual Halloween Children’s Concert. This exciting concert will have frightfully fun symphonic music that is stimulating for young eyes and ears (ages 2–10). This concert's main feature will be from the fairy tale opera Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck. Bernadette Nason will narrarate the story of Hansel and Gretel, a brother and sister abandoned in a forest, where they fall into the hands of a witch who lives in a house made of gingerbread, cake, and pastries. The witch intends to fatten the children before eventually eating them, but Gretel outwits the witch. The two children then escape with their lives and return home with the witch's treasure.

The entire family is invited to dress up in their favorite costume and enjoy “boo-tiful” music with their Austin Symphony Orchestra!

PROGRAM:

  • RICHARD WAGNER: Die Walküre "Ride of the Valkyries"
  • ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK: Hansel and Gretel (with narrator)
  • CHARLES GOUNOD: Funeral March of a Marionette
  • EDVARD GRIEG: Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46 "In the Hall of the Mountain King"
  • JOHN WILLIAMS: Star Wars Suite for Orchestra

This concert is a wonderful chance for you to introduce your children to the wonders of live orchestral music. The hall will be decorated top to bottom to enhance your little one’s concert experience.
