We're celebrating the life and works of the greatest member of a family famous for producing excellent musicians; the name 'Bach' was synonymous with 'musician' in certain parts of Central Germany in the 17th century! 

  • J.S. Bach: Goldberg Variations: Aria. Performed by Gustav Leonhardt, harpsichord. Sinfonia from the cantata 'Am Abend aber desselbigen Sabbats' BWV 42. Performed by Lautten Compagney.
  • J.S. Bach: Prelude and Fugue in E major, BWV 566. From 'Bach and the Influences of Böhm and Buxtehude', performed by Wolfgang Zerer at the Hinsz organ of 1733 located in Leens, the Netherlands. 
  • J.S. Bach: Selections from the St. Matthew Passion, including 'Kommt, Ihr Töchter, helft mir klagen', 'Mache dich mein Herzen rein' and 'Ich will dir mein Herze schenken'. Performed by the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, with Barbara Bonney, soprano, Anne Sofie von Otter, alto, and Cornelius Hauptmann, bass, conducted by John Eliot Gardiner.
