Book cover shadle new world symphony

If you’re a fan of Antonin Dvorak, you will love this book: Antonín Dvořák’s New World Symphony.

It was written by Douglas Shadle, Chair of the Department Of Musicology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

He writes about how Dvorak was one of the first to establish American classical music. Dvorak championed the music of African-Americans and Native Americans in the 1890’s when the classical community was enamored of the classical music composed mostly by Germans and other Europeans.
