About
Mother Falcon Music Lab is a summer music program for players of symphonic as well as standard rock band instruments, developed and run by the Austin band, Mother Falcon.
Our dynamic curriculum centers around our camp motto, “musicality over technicality,” which means that, rather than focusing on improving your technique, we spend the week doing exercises and workshops that help you find your own voice and teach you how to be creative with the skills you already have.
Students will collaborate in a band, write an original song, and make t-shirts and logos. Classes include extended techniques, Architecture in Music, audio engineering, photography, creative writing, puppet construction, and improv. Musicians and artists from the Austin creative community will perform for and talk to students about the music and arts business.

Presenter Details
- Name: Mother Falcon
Mother Falcon began as a jam session of classically trained high school cellists and has since blossomed into an indie chamber orchestra of twenty young musicians, creating an intricate soundscape of rock, jazz and hip hop rhythms. The band’s albums have been praised by NPR, and have collaborated with artists such as Alejandro Escovedo, Amanda Palmer, Tony Trischka, and Ben Sollee. Continually creating new work, Mother Falcon debuted an extract of Stravinsky's “The Rite of Spring” and an orchestral interpretation of Radiohead’s OK Computer. Committed to music education, Mother Falcon conducts a summer songwriting camp for orchestra students.
