About

Girma Yifrashewa -- renowned Ethiopian pianist makes a rare US visit from Addis Ababa to make his Texas debut at Central Presbyterian Church, presented by Unseen Worlds and Las Cruxes. Born in Addis Ababa in 1967, Yifrashewa's life in music began with the Kirar, a harp-like traditional Ethiopian string instrument, at a tender age. He was introduced to piano at the age of 16 when he joined the Yared School of Music in Addis Ababa, and continued his studies at the Sofia State Conservatory of Music in Bulgaria, where he graduated with a Masters in Piano under Professor Atanas Kurtev.

His 2014 album, "Love & Peace," released on Unseen Worlds was met with wide acclaim, earning him accolades from NPR, Uncut, Other Music, and more. For this current tour, Yifrashewa hopes to spread awareness of our need for hope, positivity, love, and peace in the world, during this especially difficult time for Ethiopia.
