About
Come hear the new Young Professional Quartet in Residence at the University of Texas, invoke, accompanied by Texas State Faculty Pianist Faith DeBow in this program of music related to our favorite beer-bellied composer. Works will include the Brahms Piano Quintet, Peter Schickele's Piano Quintet #2, and original works by the invoke quartet.
As with all Beerthoven events, beer, pretzels, and other refreshments will be served on our rooftop patio at no additional cost! However if you prefer your own brew, it is also welcome.
Beerthoven events are family-friendly; kids and youth are welcome! Student tickets are offered for $10 at the door.
Bowed and fretted string quartet invoke continues to successfully dodge even the most valiant attempts at genre classification. The multi-instrumental band's musical range stretches beyond the classical realm to encompass traditions from across America, including bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism. Pianist Faith DeBow teaches at Texas State University and Trinity University, helps lead the Victoria Bach Festival, and is the pianist for Conspirare, the Grammy-winning professional choir based in Austin. She occasionally plays with the Austin and Victoria symphony orchestras. She has recorded multiple CDs for Harmonia Mundi and PBS with Conspirare, and for Albany Records with tuba player Tim Buzbee.
The Beerthoven Concert Series is a down-to-earth, approachable celebration of classical song and chamber music; a quirky mixture of Oktoberfest and Bach Fest in a unique and intimate setting. Beerthoven finds its inspiration in the musical and festive events at the Austin Saengerrunde as well as the private "salon" concerts of Beethoven's own time. All Beerthoven events feature snacks, drinks, and live classical music, all included with admission. There is no backstage area here; audience members may even find themselves standing in line for beer with the performers. The Beerthoven Concert Series is a Sponsored Project of the Austin Creative Alliance. Beerthoven is made possible through the support of the Austin Saengerrunde and individual benefactors.

The Beerthoven Concert Series is a down-to-earth, approachable celebration of classical song and chamber music; a quirky mixture of Oktoberfest and Bach Fest, often in unique and intimate settings. Beerthoven finds its inspiration from the musical and festive events at the Austin Saengerrunde as well as the private “salon” concerts of Beethoven’s own time. All Beerthoven events feature snacks, drinks, and live classical music, all included with admission. There is no backstage area here; audience members may even find themselves standing in line for beer with the performers.
Beerthoven began in 2014 as an auxiliary of the Austin Saengerrunde, combining the club's love of great German music and great German beer. Recently, Beerthoven has begun to broaden its reach in the community by joining the Austin Creative Alliance and attracting many fans from outside of the Saengerrunde. The Saengerrunde continues to serve as the primary venue and major sponsor of Beerthoven. We seek to promote a greater spirit of community through the enjoyment of music. A special effort is made at Beerthoven events to make them free of unnecessary rules and formalities to which the audience must adhere. It is our hope that we might reach an audience that has or may develop an appreciation for classical music but would be unlikely to visit a traditional concert hall. Beerthoven especially celebrates classical song and chamber music (for small ensembles of two or more). Programming is intentionally diverse in tone, instrumentation, and featured performers. Beerthoven supports local artists by offering fair compensation and a unique performance venue.
