“A musical sisterhood” – that’s how Austin Girls’ Choir singers like to describe their choir! With 26+ years of service to girls age 8-18 in the Austin metro area, this group not only delivers a great music education, but also provides a strong sense of community and terrific formative life experiences. • Name: Austin Girls' Choir

Austin Girls’ Choir is a top-tier performance choir for girls age 8-18, founded in 1990 by Artistic Director Sara Burden-McClure. The group sings frequently for state events, parades, conventions and festivals, as well as its own concerts and tours. Over the years, they have been featured on CNN, C-SPAN and BBC Radio, and on many television newscasts.

Choristers share a strong love for music and music-making, and enjoy the opportunity to learn challenging works in a mutually supportive, high-standard environment. Their repertoire spans many genres and languages, from classical to jazz, rock and pop, and many selections are in three- or four-part harmony. In addition to musical skills, the girls also develop personal responsibility, self-discipline and performance poise, as they learn to function as part of a team and to value one another.

Tour ensembles have sung all over the US and in England, France, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic. A 2008 concert tour included singing for President Bush at the White House and singing Evensong at the Washington National Cathedral – on the same day! At home, the girls even get to collaborate with artists ranging from Bob Schneider, Erin Ivey and Joe McDermott to the Austin Symphony Orchestra and the American Boychoir.
