For over a century the famous Schirmer volume, 24 Italian Art Songs and Arias, has introduced millions of young singers to Italian music and is a staple of solo & ensemble contests around the nation. Designed in the same mode as TEMP’s educational outreach program to Austin-area schools, our concert presentation re-imagines the songs from this enduring and beautiful vocal literature in the style of a soap opera with international heritage.
Featuring such hits as “Caro mio ben”, “Per la Gloria”, “Che fiero costume”, and more, six of TEMP’s virtuosic soloists, assisted by a small continuo group and orchestra, spin a classic soap opera yarn (you know: totally believable!) using these very well-known “hits” from 17th and 18th century Italian opera and chamber music.
Highly presentational, unapologetically virtuosic, and entirely entertaining, this is a performance of timeless drama and very timely comedy! Love! Passion! High notes!
