The Wednesday Morning Music Club (“WMMC”) presents its annual Pops Program on Wednesday, April 4th, at 10 a.m. The program is WMMC’s annual tribute to a variety of popular musical styles and instruments. This performance takes place at the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs Building on San Gabriel. The public is invited and welcomed.

Kicking off the program is the Silver Strings Orchestra, directed by WMMC member and SSO Director, Catherine van Zanten. The orchestra is playing a variety of pieces including: I Whistle a Happy Tune by Richard Rodgers, Try to Remember by Harvey Schmidt, Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Ray Henderson,
Up, Up, and Away by Jimmy Webb, and Thanks for the Memory by Ralph Rainger.

Next on the program are WMMC members Soprano Suzy Gallagher and Tenor, Kit Thompson accompanied by pianist Greta Gutman, presenting from Gypsy: Let Me Entertain You by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim. They also include All I Need Is the Girl, Together Wherever We Go, and Everything's Coming up Roses.

WMMC members Marcia Edwards and Sarah Harriman perform Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices by Paul Fleischman.

Last selection on the program is a tribute to Great Cities of the World presented by WMMC members Charles Palmer, baritone and Kathryn Govier, piano and includes Granada by Agustín Lara, I Love Paris by Cole Porter, and Torna a Surriento by Ernesto de Curtis (1875-1937).

Members enjoy opportunities to perform, listen to live—mostly classical—music, make new friends, support music education and young musicians, promote American music and artists, and receive a newsletter with performer bios and a calendar of upcoming musical events in the community. The club is affiliated with the Texas Federation of Music Clubs and with the National Federation of Music Clubs.
