Enjoy an afternoon of lighter music of the last century, from the American Songbook to songs of Broadway and dances from Samuel Barber. The concert will feature the Stardust Four, an ensemble performing the songs of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. Judy Ratliff, Catherine Bartoli, and Ann Moeller, accompanied by Vernon Moeller, will feature favorites of the big band era and the Andrews Sisters. Songs from the golden age of Broadway will be performed by Megan Sherrod, mezzo soprano and Max Randa, piano. Former UT piano professor Betty Mallard and Angelica Lopez, Ph.D., will perform Dances from Samuel Barber’s Souvenirs, for four hand piano. Angelica is a past winner of the Carol Boyer Moody Scholarship, which is given annually to a UT student member of the Beta Xi chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI). In recent years, the competition has been extended to include the Theta Omega chapter of SAI at Southwest Texas University in San Marcos. More info.

  • Name: Austin Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota
  • Sigma Alpha Iota is a professional music fraternity for women. The Austin Alumnae Chapter has members who are faculty members of local universities, performers, public and private school teachers, and owners of private studios. The Carol Boyer Moody Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships to students in the Beta Xi college chapter at the University of Texas and Theta Omega, at Texas State University in San Marcos.

    Stardust Four is a dynamic trio of women who sing standards of the American Songbook and hits of the Andrews Sisters. Accompanied by Vernon Moeller, their tight vocal harmonies and lyric voices are at their peak in this music of true American culture.

    Megan Sherrod, mezzo soprano, possesses a rich vocal quality and dramatic presence that brings to life the songs of the Broadway stage. Her past roles include Cousin Hebe in HMS Pinafore, Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Kate in The Pirates of Penzance, She has enjoyed performing with the Austin Opera Chorus for the past two seasons. Megan holds a Master of Music in voice performance from the University of North Texas and her Bachelor of Music in vocal performance at Oklahoma City University. When not singing, you'll find her improvising regularly at Austin’s local improv comedy theatres.

    Betty Mallard is retired from the piano faculty of the University of Texas at Austin and maintains an extensive private studio.

    Angelica Lopez received her doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin and teaches privately in Austin.
