Round Top Festival Institute presents Thomas Burritt performing works for solo marimba on the Festival Concert Hall stage on Saturday, January 30, 2021. He will be joined by pianist James Dick, the Institute's Founder and Artistic Director, for a select piece. The program will begin at 3:00 pm and end at 4:30 pm with no intermission.

Dr. Burritt is Professor of Percussion and Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He has served as percussion faculty at Round Top Festival Institute each summer since 2004.

Adult $25. Student $10. All tickets must be purchased in advance online. No tickets will be sold over the phone as the office is closed during the pandemic. No ticket sales at the door. Due to COVID-related restrictions, a limited number of tickets is available. Buy your tickets early. Tickets are non-refundable. All sales final.

Round Top Festival Institute wants everyone to stay safe and healthy! RTFI is following strict guidelines issued by the Fayette County Judge's Office and Emergency Management Coordinator. ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Thomas Burritt received degrees from Ithaca College School of Music (BM – Education and Performance), Kent State University (MM), and Northwestern University (DMA). Active in the creation and performance of new music for percussion, Burritt has built a reputation in chamber music as a percussion soloist and a concert marimbist. He has performed regularly at the Leigh Howard Stevens International Marimba Seminar and was a featured faculty performer at the 2007 and 2009 Zeltsman Marimba Festival. In April 2004 Burritt performed in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as member of the Hammers and Sticks Ensemble. Later the same year the Hammers and Sticks Ensemble released a CD on the Innova label featuring works by Steven Mackey, Zhou Long, Alvin Singleton, Alex Shapiro, Joseph Harchanko and Belinda Reynolds. As Percussion Soloist, Burritt has been active performing percussion concertos by Steve Mackey, Joseph Schwantner, Michael Dougherty, David Maslanka, John Mackey, and James MacMillan. Burritt has recorded for guitarist Eric Johnson and recording artist David Byrne. Burritt's first solo CD recording: "All Times Identical – New American Music for Marimba" was released in November 2006. His latest solo marimba recording "Groundlines" is now available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Rdio and Spotify. In 2009, Burritt was nominated for a Grammy for his performances on "Conspirare in Concert," distributed world-wide on the harmonia mundi label. In the spring of 2012, Burritt was cited as being one of "The most influential Music Professors on Twitter." He is currently Professor of Percussion and Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and is a clinician/endorser for Majestic and Mapex Concert Percussion, Innovative Percussion, Zildjian Cymbals, beetle percussion and Grover Pro Percussion.

Located in historic Round Top, Texas, The James Dick Foundation for the Performing Arts and its sole project, Round Top Festival Institute, were founded in 1971 by world-renowned concert pianist James Dick. Begun with a handful of gifted young pianists in rented space on the town square, the project is now an internationally acclaimed music institute for aspiring young musicians and distinguished faculty.

Since 1971, with the help of its patrons and friends, The James Dick Foundation for the Performing Arts has developed superb year round education and performance programs. It has also created a unique 210-acre campus "Festival Hill" containing major performance facilities, historic houses, extensive gardens, parks and nature preserves.
