April 2nd at 7:30 PM | Bates Recital Hall

The Austin Civic Orchestra partners again with The University of Texas at Austin for the 8th Texas Rising Stars concert at Bates Recital Hall. The winners of the Butler School of Music’s String Concerto Competition perform concerti accompanied by the orchestra. The concert is free to everyone, but getting a ticket is recommended.

This collaborative concert between the Butler School of Music and Austin Civic Orchestra was conceived by UT professor Brian Lewis and is funded in part by the David and Mary Winton Green Chair in String Performance and Pedagogy.

The orchestra will open the concert with the Overture to “West Side Story”.

  • Brahms: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77, Allegro non troppo, featuring Dongsub Jeoung on violin
  • Chausson: Poème for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 25, featuring Nick Hammel on violin
  • Tchaivosky: Violin Concerto in D major, Finale: Allegro vivacissimo, featuring Josh Liu on violin

  • The Austin Civic Orchestra (ACO) is a non-profit civic organization that has been around since 1977. The ACO is devoted to bringing high quality music to the community and providing a musical outlet for professional and non-professional musicians alike. The ACO performs six to eight concerts each season, all of which offer programming to suit a wide variety of musical tastes, from traditional classics to pops and most everything in between. Presented at assorted convenient locations in the Austin area, the relaxed atmosphere and affordable cost have proven appealing to this community.
