CURSES: A COLLABORATIVE CABARET

Five poets, Five composers, One songbook.

“Curses” is a collaborative concert created by members of CTC Music Publishing and Typewriter Rodeo, two Austin-based creative collectives that were destined to find each other through a love of expletives, exploration, and creative writing. Witness the mesmerizing, Frankensteinian monstrosity of the “Curses” world premiere at The Ballroom @ Spiderhouse on January 14.

This program features 8 world premieres, all about hexes, cursive writing, swearing, bad luck, and more, from composers Graham Yates, Keith Allegretti, Brittney Benavides Smith, Ben Tibbetts, and Carol Brown. Voice, piano, clarinet, cello, and drums combine in styles as diverse as operatic, cabaret, and contemporary. There will even be some fun improvisation with the musicians and one of the Typewriter Rodeo poets, and YOU can get in on the shenanigans!
