CALL FOR ART SONG SUBMISSIONS!

Composers: One Ounce Opera will present a new series of concerts titled “Fresh Squeezed Ounce.” This will be the inaugural event in what we hope will become a long standing series. A careful team is hand-picking music for this concert.

OOO would like to formally welcome you to submit songs for inclusion in our program.

Please email a sample score of any chamber work(s) you have that would qualify as “art song”. Solo voice would be preferable, but duets or trios (of singers) would also be interesting to consider. If the songs are written for piano/voice already, fantastic! If not, we ask that there be a piano reduction for rehearsal, and will have to accept works on an if-we-can-find-the-players basis.

Submission deadline is October 1st. All music will be selected by October 10th, if not before. Copies of all parts will be due at that time.

Performance dates are November 20, 21, and 22 in and around Austin. Composers will receive a cash award and be included on a compilation recording of this year’s event.

One Ounce Opera…

*was founded in August of 2012 with the motto — “Opera isn’t obsolete. Popular opinion of opera is.”
*is dedicated to reimagining opera in unexpected spaces, from the rock stages of Red 7 to City Hall.
*is an ensemble of professional singing artists who incubate, create, and produce opportunities to inject “ounces” of opera and classical references into the social consciousness, utilizing cross-genre collaborations, pop-culture references, a bit of improvisation, and the simple beauty of the human voice.
*is an award-winning collective who has been featured on KVUE, KMFA, KUTX, KOOP, KVRX, on Austin 360 and in the Austin Chronicle, and performed as part of EAST, Fusebox, SoundSpace at the Blanton, HONKTX!, during SXSW, PRIDE Austin, and the Downtown Tree Lighting.
