KMFA has enjoyed the support of the Central Texas community since 1967.  As a listener-supported classical music resource, KMFA is committed to ensuring that its workforce, management, governing board and advisory boards reflect the diversity of the community it serves.  KMFA believes that diversity considerations in the community include not only gender and race, but also age, disability, culture, education, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.

Currently minorities make up 8% of the KMFA full-time staff, one in a top management position. Three other members of the top management team are female. Another minority female is a part-time announcer responsible for community coverage and education.  

In the past three years, KMFA has undertaken diversity initiatives in its community outreach, adding a key minority cultural leader and several millennials to its community advisory board. Qualified diversity candidates are interviewed for leadership openings. In 2016-17, three marketing internships were filled; all three were women and two were minority. Management also participates regularly in minority and student job fairs.

The KMFA board of directors has defined greater board diversity as a key priority. One new Hispanic member joined the board in 2016; minorities now comprise 12% of board membership. Additional diverse candidates will be approached for membership in the coming year.

KMFA management will continue to recruit and retain a diverse workforce that is representative of our service area, will provide equal opportunity in employment, and will offer ongoing diversity training for appropriate staff.  We will also seek to expand our reach into traditionally underserved communities by recruiting additional minority members for the community advisory board.
